This product is comprised of a tinplate box with 3″ (75 mm) sides; the vertical faces of the box are blackened, roughened, varnished, and polished, respectively. The top opening is 1″ (25 mm) Dia. The apparatus is filled with water maintained at boiling point by a low Bunsen flame. A thermopile and a galvanometer can then be used to compare the relative output of radiant heat from each of the 4 faces. Care should be exercised to prevent radiation from reaching the thermopile directly from the flame.
